Sr. Systems Administrator - UNIX, while reporting to the Sr.
Manager Systems Administration, will be responsible for installing, administering,
and maintaining operating systems software and related software products while also
participating in the planning and coordination of delivered services. The Systems
Administrator will execute activities related to systems access, security,
availability and capacity across multiple platforms along with proactively
administering Unix and Linux servers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administer user access to systems, or develop access strategies.
Support development and production system environments.
Install and maintain third-party application software, maintaining continuity with
licensing and maintenance agreements.
Monitor and tune system for performance.
Develop maintenance and support standard operating procedures (SOP) documentation
for level 2 support personnel.
Coordinate all capacity planning activities.
Plan, test, and update system disaster recovery process.
Install and support web and application middleware, such as WebSphere or WebLogic.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Expertise with system administration, implementation, monitoring, and recovery
techniques for major Linux distributions such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and for
IBM AIX.
Strong system programming and shell-scripting skills.
Understanding of database management concepts including Oracle.
Experience with enterprise backup and recovery software such as EMC Networker,
Tivoli Storage Manager, or Veritas NetBackup.
Disaster Recovery planning and testing experience including bare-metal or hotsite
restore.
Experience working with Storage Array Network (SAN) technology, particularly as
such technologies relate to UNIX server storage presentation.
Experiernce installing, administering and maintaining web and application servers
such as Apache, Tomcat, WebLogic and WebSphere.
Solid organizational and prioritizing skills. Capable of working with limited
supervision.
Ability to partner with technical and non-technical users.
Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical documentation.
Able to be a team player and is customer service driven.
Work Experience and/or Education
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology, or
equivalent. Degree is not required with extensive experience.
Strong knowledge of Unix and Linux system internals, operating systems and
security concepts with a minimum of 10 years experience.
Large-scale server and data center experience (experience with businesses similar
in size and scope , or larger).
Operating system administration training classes pertaining to a Unix and LINUX
operating systems is desired. Certifications are preferred.
Compensation will consist of a competitive salary based on your experience, with
bonus potential.
